RYDER

“Surprise!” everyone yells on cue as Brody walks into the backroom at Taco Loco with his arm wrapped around his wife.

The slender, dark-haired woman lifts both hands to her mouth as she stares wide eyed at the crowd. As soon as they step over the threshold, Juliette rushes forward and throws herself at Natalie, hugging her tightly. Maverick follows closely behind his sister, slipping his arms around both women. Brody gets in on the action, holding his family close.

It’s only when they’re standing all together that I realize how much Juliette resembles her mother. They both have the same shiny, dark hair. Natalie’s is cut in a sleek bob that sweeps her shoulders while her daughter’s flows down her back like a thick curtain. My fingers clench as memories of the other night at the pool flood my mind and what it felt like to have those damp strands wrapped around my hand.

It takes effort to shake that recollection away before I pop wood.

Mav has the same build as his father paired with Natalie’s dark hair.

My gaze meanders to Brody. Ever since our families became close, he’s been a guiding presence in my life. His hockey career is the stuff legends are made of. He played Juniors before attending Whitmore University, a DI college, and then headed to the pros where he dominated for more than a decade.

Those thoughts lead me back to what will happen at the end of this season. Unwilling to contemplate the possibility of a derailed future, I hoist the beer to my lips and refocus my attention on Juliette.

As much as I can’t afford to get distracted, she’s become a welcome one.

Deep down in a place I’m afraid to inspect too closely, I know what’s going on between us is way more than that.

Even now, days later, I can still taste her honey on my lips.

It’s all I’ve been able to think about since I spread her legs wide on the tiled edge of the pool and tongued her pussy until she had no other choice but to moan out her pleasure. The throaty cries that echoed off the walls were almost enough to make me come.
